Bevor die Märkte am Freitagmorgen 31.07. öffnen, werden die US-amerikanischen Öl- und Gasriesen Exxon Mobil Corp. (NYSE: XOM) und Chevron Corp. (NYSE: CVX) die Ergebnisse des zweiten Quartals veröffentlichen. Die Erwartungen sind niedrig und die einzige Frage wird sein, ob sie niedrig genug sind.
Die Aktien von Exxon Mobil und Dow Inc. werden am Donnerstag niedriger gehandelt, was den Ausverkauf des Dow Jones Industrial Average vorantreibt. Die Aktien von Exxon Mobil XOM (-4,31%) und Dow Inc. DOW (-4,41%) tragen zum Intraday-Rückgang des Blue-Chips bei, da der Dow DJIA (-0,84%) zuletzt 304 Punkte niedriger handelte (-1,1%). Die Aktien von Exxon Mobil sind um 1,99 USD (4,5%) gefallen, während die von Dow Inc. um 1,84 USD oder 4,2% gefallen sind, was zusammen einen Rückgang des Dow um rund 26 Punkte bedeutet.
Rohöl fiel am Donnerstag nach dem schwachen Gewinnbericht der Royal Dutch Shell PLC (NYSE: RDS-A) unter 40 USD pro Barrel. Shell hat im Quartal eine Wertminderung in Höhe von rund 22 Milliarden US-Dollar vorgenommen, doppelt so viel wie die Wertminderung, die Chevron im vierten Quartal des vergangenen Jahres vorgenommen hat. Exxon hat sich jedoch geweigert, Vermögenswerte abzuschreiben.
Eine erhebliche Wertminderung seiner Vermögenswerte aufgrund niedriger Öl- und Erdgaspreise könnte die Exxon-Aktie schwer treffen. Die Aktie notiert bereits 44% unter ihrem 52-Wochen-Hoch. Die größere Gefahr für Exxon könnte die hohe Dividendenrendite von 7,9% sein, die durch einen gleitenden Aktienkurs gestützt wird. Wenn das Unternehmen seine Dividende senkt, könnten Anleger aussteigen.
Analysten haben den bereinigten Verlust pro Aktie von Exxon im zweiten Quartal auf 0,62 USD bei einem Umsatz von 38,2 Mrd. USD geschätzt. Im gleichen Zeitraum des Vorjahres erzielte Exxon einen Gewinn je Aktie (EPS) von 0,61 USD und einen Umsatz von 69,1 Mrd. USD. In den letzten 90 Tagen hat sich der geschätzte Verlust pro Aktie um etwa 10% erhöht.
Im ersten Quartal hat Exxon eine nicht zahlungswirksame Wertminderung in Höhe von 2,9 Mrd. USD vorgenommen, die auf Auswirkungen auf die Bestandsbewertung aufgrund niedrigerer Rohstoffpreise und Wertminderungen von Vermögenswerten zurückzuführen ist. Das ist wirklich nicht genug, um einen Rückgang der Rohölpreise zu erklären, der alle nachgewiesenen und riskierten Reserven von Exxon abwertet.
Ohne Berücksichtigung des Wertminderungsaufwands und anderer einmaliger Posten erzielte Exxon im ersten Quartal einen Gewinn je Aktie von 0,53 USD. In seinem Ausblick für das zweite Quartal sagte das Unternehmen, dass die COVID-19-Pandemie die tägliche Produktion um etwa 400.000 Barrel Öläquivalent reduzieren würde und die verringerte Erdgasnachfrage in Europa die Produktion um weitere 100.000 Barrel Öläquivalent pro Tag reduzieren würde. Es wurde erwartet, dass die Raffineriemargen weiter sinken und 30% der Raffineriekapazität nicht genutzt werden können. Das Unternehmen hat diese Schätzungen nicht geändert.
Chevron wird voraussichtlich im zweiten Quartal einen Verlust pro Aktie von 0,92 USD bei einem Umsatz von 22,1 Mrd. USD verzeichnen. Im zweiten Quartal 2019 meldete das Unternehmen einen Gewinn je Aktie von 1,77 USD und einen Umsatz von 38,9 Mrd. USD. Die Ergebnisse des ersten Quartals 2020 beliefen sich auf einen Gewinn je Aktie von 1,93 USD bei einem Gesamtumsatz von 29,7 Mrd. USD. Ohne Einmaleffekte belief sich der Gewinn je Aktie von Chevron im ersten Quartal auf 1,29 USD.
Vor zehn Tagen stimmte Chevron der Übernahme von Noble Energy Inc. (NYSE: NBL) im Wert von 5 Milliarden US-Dollar zu. Die Akquisition war solide. Chevron sagte, dass es seine nachgewiesenen Öl- und Gasreserven um 18% bei durchschnittlichen Kosten von weniger als 5 USD pro Barrel Öläquivalent erhöhen würde und dass die Akquisition fast 7 Milliarden Barrel risikobehaftete Reserven zu weniger als 1,50 USD pro Barrel hinzufügen würde.
Ein Preis von rund 8 USD pro Barrel ist typisch für den Erwerb bewährter Barrel. Ein vielleicht noch beeindruckenderer Teil des Geschäfts ist, dass es sich nicht um Bargeld handelt. Chevron kann praktisch sein eigenes Geld drucken, um Noble zu kaufen und die Kosten auf alle Aktionäre zu verteilen.
Während dies die Aktionäre manchmal irritiert, ging Chevron in die Offensive, indem sie die Dividende im Januar um mehr als 8% erhöhte. Zum Zeitpunkt der Bekanntgabe des Deals für Noble zahlte Chevron knapp 8% als Prämie für das kleinere Unternehmen.
Kurz vor Donnerstagmittag fiel die Exxon-Aktie um 4,2% auf 42,18 USD in einer 52-wöchigen Spanne von 30,11 USD bis 75,18 USD. Die Aktien notierten rund 78% unter ihrem 52-Wochen-Hoch und etwas mehr als 12% des 12-Monats-Konsenskursziels von 47,38 USD.
Die Chevron-Aktie verlor 3,9% bei 86,53 USD in einem 52-Wochen-Bereich von 51,60 USD bis 125,27 USD und mit einem Kursziel von 100,71 USD. Die Aktien notierten rund 43% unter ihrem 52-Wochen-Hoch und 16% unter dem Kursziel.
